Jeremiah Crichton
Hey everyone, and welcome to another quick review from the slightly SACC point of view!
Overall:
-
This episode was defiantly not as serious as the last few, but this isn't the X-Files and the lighter tone was certainly nice. Not that I'd want this every week. While Crichton's reaction was very understandable, I am surprised at the timing. I figured he would at least wait until the blockage was cleared and the crisis over. The island native theme is overused, and the "newcomer mistaken as a God" was also predictable, but the way they did it was amusing and had some new twists (the Aquarians thinking Rygel was a God because of their past relationship to the Hynerian empire was an interesting development). I was half expecting the pod that Aeryn and Zhaan sent down to arrive during Rygel's speech in time for "verify" his godhood.
Crichton:

Well the tally this week is encouraging. While we do have the faultless abandonment and a few harsh beatings from Angry Native Son's Personal Army, he does say that this is the first place since arriving in this area of the galaxy that he has found "peace". We can assume that over the last three months he had some time to relax and enjoy a bit of off time. And of course, there was the Big Bushy Beard *shudder*. Rating:
A Day or Two Recovery and a Good Shave.
The Good:
-
The opening sequence up to Crichton's realization "Oh God I am a dead man." It gave us a nice idea of what would have happened if he had appeared in the middle of nowhere and not in a space battle.
-
D'Argo's unwavering commitment to a comrade, if not a friend. In fact D'Argo overall appeared to be the most mature character there.
-
The interaction between Zhaan and Aeryn as they tried to figure out how to help their shipmates.
-
Both of Crichtons "speeches", the first when he's describing where his home planet it in relation to the map he was given, and the second to D'Argo about his frustration with his life since he first appeared (a speech all SACCers will be memorizing :-) ).
-
Rygel actually having a partially intellectual role instead of just as comic relief.
The Bad:
-
Crichton's initial reaction to D'Argo rescuing him (both from the natives attack and from the planet in general)...talk about ungrateful and holding a grudge!
-
The Big Bushy Beard (I'm sorry I just HATE facial hair!)
-
No Pilot.
-
The whole Rygel as God plot.
-
And not seeing at least some of what happened over the 3 months.
The Nitpicky:
-
So Rygel ruled over other species besides Hynerians? And why were the natives abandoned in the first place?
-
The fact that everyone assumes Zhaan now can't help with any personal problems at all simply because she is no longer a priest.
-
Missing Dialogue: Crichton "Thank you for teaching me about your native ways, and for giving me these neat Gap Khaki's! Can you now teach me about your shaving techniques?"
Odd observation of the week:
-
Right after Crichton's speech to D'Argo, there is a shot of Rygel sleeping. The music in the background for the few seconds sounds like an electronic bassoon playing the theme from The
Secret of Monkey Island (tm).

It's not always your fault, just almost always. D'Argo to Crichton
