Day 2 (Friday)

The idea had been to sleep in...or at least get up at a reasonable hour and work out. After all the convention didn't start till noon! But apparently my body, mind, and roomies all had other ideas. We were up WAY to early...spent an excited morning figuring out breakfast, and then were over at the convention center ASAP!

First up was Ricky Manning, who was his regular warm, hysterical, wonderful self. He showed off his new Mambo shirt, making me wish I had on the real thing instead of an incredible simulation of a Mambo shirt. He entertained us with stories of the making of MiniFarscape, and left us all wishing he had more than half an hour. I ducked out during the trivia contest and got in his impromptu hall line to get a pic. Ricky was around all weekend chatting with anyone walking by, signing anything and everything, taking pictures, going to the bar...he was a blast!

I got back inside in time for the Lion's Gate "Making Of The PeaceKeeper Wars Special" that should be on the DVD. It's AWESOME! If only because of the hysterical commentary from the cast on location and at shoot. It's always fun to see behind the scenes of our favorite show, and it's a nice book end to the other behind the scenes special that showed DK saying goodbye to the cast and crew after the last day of shooting.

After some music videos we heard from Bianca Chiminello, who I swear has the longest legs I have ever seen on a human. Long, thin, gorgeous legs! What I wouldn't give for legs like that...anyway she retold the story of filming her infamous kissing scene in the shark infested water, and made everyone green with envy.

ccbianca11.jpg (124068 bytes) - And now a shot for the men

ccbianca6.jpg (101452 bytes) ccbianca7.jpg (99652 bytes) ccbianca8.jpg (145868 bytes) - She loved listening to questions, and grinned the whole time!

ccbianca9.jpg (111689 bytes) - Hrm...who's that over your shoulder, Bianca?

ccbianca12.jpg (115931 bytes) - Naughty water bottle!!

I hung around for part 1 of the "No Minimum Bid Auction", not because I could actually buy anything but because it was fun to see all the cool costumes and stuff. Elnea came away with a pulse rifle, and we all had way to much fun posing with it. And I drooled over Crichton's bright orange flight suit, the real one warn in the first season and everything! I still like that flight suit...I remember arguing with people for months over that thing! Unfortunately I didn't have $4,000 to plunk down for it. But I did take way too many pictures of the darn thing, and when the woman carting it back to the table went by we got a chance to touch it and take pics with it!

And now, a visual ode to the Bright Orange Flight Suit:

ccflightme.jpg (129566 bytes) - It's blurry (again!), but it's me with the Flight Suit!!!

I was able to tear myself away from the flight suit in time to catch Wayne Pygram, wearing the coolest Mambo shirt that I spent half his talk trying to figure out what it said. He answered a TON of questions, everything from his take on finally killing off Sikozu to the death scene of Harvey to what Scorpy was thinking at the peace signing. He also was not given nearly enough time to speak, but filled his half an hour with tons of great answers and lots of good photos!

Then...autograph time!

I'd wanted to by tickets for everyone, but being a poor musician I had to prioritize. David Franklin was a must, and I got his signature on a nice pic of him as Braca while waiting for the Gold patrons to get from Wayne. It was a LONG line, but worth it! Poor Wayne was desperately trying to get through all the autographs so he could go warm up with his band, and kept apologizing as he rushed through. I would have come back another time to give him one less person, but he was leaving that day and this was the one chance to get his signature! I've got his on a nice Harvey pic...though people might wonder why I have a signed picture of a leather clad Hawaiian shirt alien cavorting on the beach with two buxom babes.

A brief stop for food and then it was back to hear Signal Room, the band that Anthony and Wayne are in with Stephen Edwards and Gerry Kortegast. I'd heard bits of them play live, some of their last CD, and bought the new CD "The Day You Ran Away" at the con so I could get all their signatures...but this would be the first time I heard them all together and live! The band was outstanding, a really nice Indy/Hard rock sound with good lyrics, great solos, and an energetic performance. Watching Wayne play drums was hypnotic...he was so focused and intent on the music you couldn't help but watch him.

What was odd at first was that no one was dancing! Here was all this great music, but no dancing! Elnea, Acca and I tried a few dance moves but were quickly ushered away from the front to prevent "blocking the Gold seats". That stunk. Then we danced in the back for a while...more room but not the same as feeling the vibration of the bassline in your gut. Then we were told we could dance up front, but on the side. So we joined the growing mass of people to the left of the stage and started to party.

ccdance1.jpg (808668 bytes) ccdance2.jpg (681149 bytes) ccdance3.jpg (839499 bytes) - "SideScapers" rock out!

Eventually Anthony himself turned to ask us why were weren't partying up front, and invited us to dance where he could actually see us! Within seconds there was a massive crowd in front of the stage, jumping and dancing and singing along! Lighters were lit, screams and cheers were yelled till throats were sore, and we got a grin and some wonderful encores from the band. They only had a bit over an hour, and it wasn't long enough, but it was a full and amazing hour of music and dancing!

I had planned on hanging around to watch MiniFarscape on the big screen, but it's amazing how a full day of a fan convention and then one hour of jumping around dancing can wear you out. I was hot, sweaty, tired, but happy...so after a bit of hanging out in the bar I quickly collapsed in bed.

Go on to Day 3 (Saturday) ...
